01. Spring (March - May)

Highlight: Cherry Blossoms (Sakura)

The most famous time to visit. The whole country turns pink.

  • **Weather:** Pleasant (10°C - 20°C). Light jacket needed.
  • **Crowds:** EXTREME. Book hotels 6 months in advance.
  • **Best Spots:** Ueno Park (Tokyo), Philosopher's Path (Kyoto), Himeji Castle.

02. Summer (June - August)

Highlight: Matsuri (Festivals) & Fireworks

Vibrant street festivals, yukata, and amazing food stalls.

  • **Weather:** HOT and HUMID (30°C - 35°C). June is rainy season (Tsuyu).
  • **Crowds:** High.
  • **Best Spots:** Gion Matsuri (Kyoto), Sumidagawa Fireworks (Tokyo), Mt. Fuji (Climbing season).

03. Autumn (September - November)

Highlight: Autumn Leaves (Koyo)

Many argue this is actually the best time. Beautiful red and orange leaves.

  • **Weather:** Perfect (15°C - 25°C). Crisp and clear.
  • **Crowds:** High, especially in Kyoto.
  • **Best Spots:** Kiyomizudera (Kyoto), Nikko, Arashiyama.

04. Winter (December - February)

Highlight: Snow & Illuminations

Magical winter lights and world-class skiing.

  • **Weather:** Cold (0°C - 10°C in Tokyo, freezing in North).
  • **Crowds:** Low (except New Year's). Cheaper hotels!
  • **Best Spots:** Niseko (Skiing), Sapporo Snow Festival, Shirakawa-go.

Best Overall

Late November

Beautiful autumn colors, dry weather, slightly fewer crowds than Sakura season.

Best Budget

Mid-January

Lowest flight and hotel prices. Just bring a warm coat.
